Situated in the hip entertainment district of Midtown, The Midtown Reader project transformed the front face of what was originally built for the Leon County Sheriff’s Department in the 1970s. The 2-story building was renovated and enlarged in the 1990s for retail, restaurant, and residential use.
In 2017, the residential portion of the building was converted to Midtown Reader bookstore, and added a new outdoor entertainment and dining space. Meant to enhance the style and charm of the existing building, the new porch space added over 900 SF of space for seating and socializing. The existing facade of the building was updated to reflect the addition, which included new storefront glazing for both Midtown Reader and the adjacent restaurant space.
